Sandy Beach, Juneau AK | Nathan + Sophie

Despite the category this blog post is under, these two are actually not engaged, they’re married!

Nathan and Sophie were married 2 summers ago at Youngberg Hill Vineyard. I was lucky enough to photograph it along side, other local Juneau Photographer Becoming Images. When Sophie heard I would be offering photos while home in Juneau for the holidays, she and Nathan jumped on the idea. Despite being high school sweethearts, they had never had professional photos taken in their hometown.

For their session, we wanted to do something beautiful and classic for Juneau scenery so Sandy Beach was the perfect fit! I think for most Juneau-ites, Sandy beach holds a very special place in their hearts. Like the name suggests, it is the one and only sandy beach in Juneau. It is also home to some incredible ruins from the old mining town, which I like to visit every time I am showing someone new around the city. Sandy beach is home to so many memories and community get togethers including work parties, bonfires, date nights, stormy weather dog walks, the list goes on — and now I can add incredible photoshoots to this list!

Nathan and Sophie were “allegedly” a little nervous at first, but as soon as I picked up my camera, these two went on full MODEL MODE. They are both stunning people, inside and out, and it is very hard to take a bad picture of either of them! We had so much fun running around the beach (like literally running) and exploring different views. We then ended our session with a few photos on the boat dock near by as a reference to their engagement session, which they did on a dock in Washington.

This session was a pleasant reminder, that there can always be a good reason for photos. Married couples deserve photos too! Treat your self and your partner, whenever the mood may strike.
